1) Deep breathing
I find deep breathing to be such a powerful tool for fighting the feelings of depression. So take a deep breath and see how relaxed you feel. I normally do Anulom Vilom which is yogic breathing and means Alternate nostril breathing.
Being creative is very therapeutic and really does help heal your mind. I have tried knitting, painting, baking, writing, photography.
I have only just discovered gardening recently and intend to do some this Spring/Summer. Growing and watering plants and inhaling their scents really appeals to me.
4) Going out
When you are depressed the worst thing you can do for yourself is to imprison yourself within the four walls of your home. It will just add to your feelings of loneliness and sadness. Go outside and feel the wind and the sun on your skin. It also helps put your own problems into perspective when you spend time with others and see what is going on in their lives.
I love this Shakespeare quote from A Midsummer Night’s dream. ‘And sleep that sometimes shuts up sorrow’s eye, steal me awhile from my own company.’ It says it all really, sleep replenishes the mind and body.
And finally I try to find beauty and creativity in everything. Live the most beautiful life you can because life really is beautiful.
