It’s World Poetry Day today and I posted my Haiku yesterday! Anyway I couldn’t let this day go without posting anything because poetry has been my love ever since I was a little girl. I remember in Primary School I had a teacher, Mrs Davies, who really encouraged my love for poetry. She once tried to make me read out a poem in assembly but I was too shy. But my love for poetry has only grown over the years, from Shakespeare’s Sonnets to Japanese Haikus and the Ghazals of Rumi and Hafiz; I love poetry in all its forms. I wrote a poem for today, taking inspiration from Rumi and Hafiz. I hope you enjoy reading it and happy World poetry Day everyone.
Prostrating on the prayer mat
I chant his beautiful name,
the wetness of my tears
cannot douse the flickering flame.
