Easy Sausage rolls

The weather is a delight at the moment. What better way to take in all that sunshine a lovely vitamin D then a lovely picnic? The kids will love it and do will the adults.
Sausage rolls are a perfect picnic food. And this recipe is Halal, Vegetarian and yummy. I used Quorn sausages and Puff pastry.

Just Rol ready rolled pastry - 1 packet
Quorn sausages - Four
1 egg - whisked

1) Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celsius, gas mark 5.
2) Wrap the sausages in the puff pastry, making little cuts in the middle.
3) Brush each one with the whisked egg.
4) Place on a tray in the oven and cook until golden brown.

Enjoy hot or cold, in the house or outside!

Afternoon Tea at Patisserie Valerie

The rain doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon and according to the weather forecast it will continue into next Thursday. Don’t get me wrong I do love the rain, it’s pitter patter against my window helps me drift of to sleep and I love to walk in the rain sometimes. There is something about walking it running in the rain when you are feeling sad, allowing the raindrops to mingle with your tears. But when the rain stays too long it starts to become an unwelcome guest, especially for at stay at home mum who just wants to get things done without getting drenched.
The Cricket has been put on a standstill which makes for a rather grumpy husband, who has taken control of the remote control and the sofa, watching all the old matches.
I needed a little respite and was glad to take my sister up on the offer of Afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie.  We headed into Leeds and did a bit of window shopping, imagining what it would actually be like if we had the money to actually buy all the stuff! But even window shopping is therapeutic in small doses.
The Afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie was a real treat; a cake stand laden with sumptuous treats. There were finger sized sandwiches, quiches, scones and yummy patisserie cakes. I particularly loved the scones which were delicious even without butter, cream or jam. We could also have as many hot beverages as we fancied. I had two cups of hot chocolate which is honestly the best hot chocolate I have ever had.

My sister said the tea was delicious too. When we were leaving she asked the gentleman who was serving us which tea they use and he kindly told us the brand name was Suki. As in that nursery rhyme ‘Suki put the kettle on.’
I am glad that I didn’t let a little rain stop me from going out of town and I can understand why writers like to sit in Cafes. It’s like your mind becomes a magnet for ideas.

My Beautiful Eid

I was so stressed with all the Eid preparations that I did not get time to write a blog post. I wanted to make this Eid special and I do think I managed it quite well. My Eid was hectic but also beautiful and sweet. I ordered my beautiful Eid balloon decorations just a few days early but it arrived on time; on the morning of Eid.

We spent the first day at my parents house and I gave these beautiful money envelopes which I made myself to my nephews and nieces. The effort was worth it when I saw the smiles on their cute faces.

It was a beautiful day even though it was raining throughout the first day. I forgot my healthy eating and ate lots delicious foods. I would post photos but I forgot to take them because I was distracted by all the yummy foods. And a mother’s cooking is always the best. We had Lamb Pilau and Tandoori chicken legs with mint raita followed by Sweet rice and Halwa for dessert.
So as you can guess Eid is mainly about eating, drinking and rejoicing in the moment.
My decorations and my envelopes were a hit with all the little ones. I can’t wait for the next Eid now which is in two months time. I intend to start planning for it now because I want to make it extra special. By the way how do you like these Eid accessories?
